Why I joined Spoke

Hi! I’m Tim Burke and I’m very excited to be joining Spoke as Lead IT Evangelist.

I’ve been in the IT field for 10+ years, and have spent the last 5+ years leading IT teams at two fast-growing startups. I like to think I’ve been on the cutting edge of new technologies, having first deployed GSuite (then Google Apps) in 2011 (to 8000 people, nonetheless!), and first deploying Slack in 2015. There have been incredible advancements in the SaaS-powered workplace in this time, but the ticketing space has been mostly underwhelming.

I’ve known about Spoke for quite a while. My former boss and CEO put me in touch with Spoke CEO Jay Srinivasan about 2 years ago to give me a preview of what the company was building. Even back then I was blown away. Ticketing with Slack as a first-class request channel? Cutting edge NLP and ML to automatically route and even answer tickets? A relentless focus on clean design, UX, and simplicity? Someone actually using AI for a real use case, not just slapping the tag on because the marketing team asked? This didn’t look like any ticketing system I’d seen before, and this isn’t my first rodeo!

So what will I be doing? I’m here to be the voice of the modern IT professional internally at Spoke. I’m here to listen to and support our customers, advise our product team and to help build a community of like-minded, forward-thinking IT colleagues. We’ll be rehauling IT Kit, hosting some amazing events across the country and dropping more awesome podcasts and blog posts.
